Short answer: buy the PS5 Pro if you play on a 4K TV and want the sharpest, smoothest picture in supported games. Buy the PS5 Slim if you play on a 1080p screen, want to spend less, or want a disc drive in the box.

What the PS5 Pro actually improves
The Pro has a stronger graphics chip, faster ray tracing and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI upscaler that sharpens the image. Games labelled PS5 Pro Enhanced use this to run at higher resolution, higher frame rates, or both. Many other games run more smoothly too, but the biggest gains are in enhanced titles on a 4K TV. On a 1080p screen the difference is much smaller.
The disc drive question
The PS5 Pro has no disc drive in the box. If you own PS5 or PS4 discs, budget for the separately sold disc drive, or choose the PS5 Slim Disc Edition, which has one built in.
